The Wire with Jeff CesarioJeff Cesario

BAGS BLUE GROOVE

Houston Astros' infielder Jeff Bagwell suffered a setback in his attempt to come back from bone spurs in his shoulder and it looks like he may never play again. Jeff Sez: The injury is bad enough, but to have it accompanied by a nasty legal tussle over his contract is worse, like getting in a bar fight and then having the jukebox switch from Aerosmith to The Carpenters. It doesn't get much worse. Okay, if he played for the Cubs, it would be worse.

PANTHERS, LOOKING TO MESS UP OFFENSE, SIGN KEYSHAWN

The Carolina Panthers signed wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson to a four-year deal. Johnson will join Carolina's All-Pro receiver Steve Smith. Jeff Sez: Widen them there locker room doorways boys, there's some Big Heads a comin' thru! I actually think Keyshawn is an engaging guy and a pretty solid receiver, but he's kind of like George Bush - he just seems to be around when bad things happen. Of course, his motor mouth never runs out of fuel, and Smith isn't exactly bashful at a mic either, so I'm gonna come out right here right now and say, look for some verbal jousting between these two by Game Three that'll have more sting than a cigarette burn in the mosh pit at a rock concert.

FINAL FOUR? TRY FROZEN FOUR, BABY!

Boston College, North Dakota, Maine, and Wisconsin made it to the Frozen Four and will square off for the NCAA College Hockey title April 6-8. Jeff sez: I love college hockey just because it's a beautiful, flowing game and because things other athletes get in trouble for in the off-season - like assault and stalking - are woven right into the action. UND may be the hottest team in the country, BC finally overcame nemesis BU this year, Maine has snuck up on everyone, and Wisconsin - well, the Badger women won the NCAA women's hockey title Sunday and then the men went three o.t.'s to beat Cornell - in the Green Bay Regional - and head to the Frozen Four - at Milwaukee's Bradley Center. The joint will be rockin' like Matthew MacConaughey's trailer on Bongo Night.
