Chuck D'Amato holiday fitness tips

There's so much partying and eating going on at the holidays, it's brutal trying to carve out some time to work out or any of that kind of crap. Instead, I say you're better off just sort of letting that slide. Avoid all that "When will I work out?" stress. Just consider that your Christmas gift to your body.

Meantime, though, there are some things you can do to burn calories while you're on the Holiday Train. Let's cruise through these, I got a thing I've got to get to, okay?:

1 - When you're watching a football game on TV, really get into the cheering. You can easily burn 30 or 40 calories just gesturing. A nice tight arm pump really gives you an isometric workout. Just remember to alternate hands.

2 - Chew your food. You're gonna be eatin' a ton, and you can't believe how underrated the jaw is as a muscle. Sometimes you can actually negate the calories of what you're eatin' by chewing it.

3 - Go outside for a smoke. Shivering burns over 2 calories a minute. I'm not saying take up smoking. If you don't smoke, go outside and hang out with your friends and relatives who do smoke, and you'll get the benefit of shivering without the tar. And generally, they're cooler people. Or, try those cheroots, the Backwoods Smokes. Very cheap, and they smell great, like pipe tobacco, which is awesome this time of year especially.

4 - Wear a big-ass sweater even for like, unwrapping gifts. You'll double your fat burn and it'll generally stop just short of making you sweat. You get kind of a hint of a musky smell. Chicks love that.

Whoops, that's my Blackberry, I gotta roll. Remember, stay light on your feet. Chuck

Sportalicious' new Health and Fitness columnist does not 'work out' in the traditional sense but rather feels that if you live life to the fullest, body tone will generally improve. D'Amato is six feet tall, 181 pounds, has ripped abs, is 28 years old and chain smokes. He occasionally 'forgets' to eat. His favorite hard liquor is pear vodka.
