St. Louis, MO - In a shocking
and rare move, the inconsistent St. Louis Rams
gave head coach Mike Martz his pink slip
three weeks ago and hired noted Hollywood film director
and Martz-lookalike Barry Levinson to take
over the reins. Martz is known mostly as an offensive genius
who could swallow an unbelievable amount of crap from Kurt
Warner's wife, while Levinson will bring a garrulous
style and hands-on approach that have garnered him an Oscar.
Levinson said the film world has 'run out of gas' and though
he readily admits he doesn't know the nuts and bolts of
professional football coaching, he added, "I didn't
know anything about being a Jew and 'Bugsy' came out okay,
huh?!" Film directors helming NFL teams is rare but
not unprecedented. In 1974 Orson Welles
briefly ran the Oakland Raiders and in
1993 Oliver Stone took over the Arizona
Cardinals but quit when he felt his power was eroded
by a conspiracy of turquoise jewelry artists. And last season,
Woody Allen briefly headed up the Grand
Rapids Rampage of the Arena Football League.
