Glen Furg, Mr. Stats,
is actually a 30-year-old aeronautics PH.D. from Iowa State
University and author of “POINTS EQUALS GREATER PREDISPOSITION
TO WINNING – the Origins of Victory.” Furg won
three medals at the Salt Lake City Paralympic Winter Games,
but was asked to leave when it was revealed he has no disability,
he just likes to ski sitting down.
Well, well, well! Here we are, time again
for the Big Game! The Super Bowl! And unlike
in years past, this one is close, really close! I know the
good fellows over there in Las Vegas who are in charge of
establishing gaming rules have said the New Jersey Patriots
are roughly 6-point favorites, but most mathemeticians will
tell you that, after factoring in margin-of-error, this
is statistically almost - almost - a toss-up. Most positions
compared team-to-team appear to be very similar, a phenomenon
in mathematics known as 'equality.' Oh ho ho - I hear what
you're saying! "C'mon Mr. Stats, you and your buddies
are supposed to have the world figured out! You were always
so much smarter than us in school and knew exactly what
you were going to do with your life while we floundered
and experienced the pain of ambiguity! So tell us of the
advanced trigonometrical theorem that will prove mathematically
beyond a shadow of a doubt who is the superior team, even
if it's only by a fraction of a fraction!" Well - okay,
I will. A simple application of a tangential equational
value from the world of quantum mechanics - "A+b2 =
C when C contains B-square root." How simple! And yet,
so many professors think this tangential equational value
is too 'blue collar' and 'beneath them' to utilize. Not
me! And so I say - by a small but solid margin of .017893
- go New Jersey Patriots!
